IBM Consulting is IBM's professional-services arm, with about 160,000 people; it took its current name in 20211.
Best for: Large companies that want AI applied to supply chain, customer service or finance operations, including business process outsourcing.
Not the right fit for: Mid-sized companies looking for a small, fixed first project.
What IBM Consulting does
Its AI practice covers strategy and governance, data preparation, agentic AI and IBM's watsonx products, and it organises use cases by function: supply chain, marketing, customer service, cybersecurity, IT operations and finance. It also sells business process outsourcing and says it has more than 75,000 consultants trained in generative AI2.
The client work on its AI page is in banking, consumer goods, sport and government, including procurement for Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and contact-centre modernisation for the State of Rhode Island. Most of those cases give no figures2. None is in logistics, accounting, construction, retail, wholesale or property management.
